What was worn at...Glastonbury?
After months of anticipation, ‘The best festival in the world’, also known as Glastonbury, came and went before we even realised it. The festival isn't just renowned for its atmosphere, music, celebrities and its infamous mud (even though this year the wellies weren't a necessity at any point); the fashion too inspires many thousands of festival goers every year. People tended to dress in a 'festival chic' manner, taking inspiration from celebrities like Kate Moss and Alexa Chung (who were, again, spotted at Worthy farm – you’d think they practically live there). Below you will find a list that includes some of the key items that were seen this year at Glasto, and therefore has the must-haves for the rest of this summer's festival season (let's be honest, Glastonbury definitely sets the tone)...
1) Ray-Bans
Ray-Bans were literally everywhere. Seen all over the festival site, on women and men, youngsters and pensioners, including Aviators to the more classic Wayfarers. At the start of the week I optimistically decided to count them, but already lost track after wandering the grounds for a few hours. The amazing thing about Ray-Bans is that they're absolutely timeless. I met a man in his fifties who claimed he had bought his Ray-Bans when he was a teenager, and now still wears them. They just don't go out of fashion. Conclusion: you cannot go wrong with Ray-Bans!
If you’re bored of the overly popular red and black Wayfarers, why not try these turquoise ones? These Ray-Bans are available at www.sunglasses-shop.co.uk
2) Straw trilby hats
With last week’s blazing heat, some people tried to stay cool by hunting down the tiniest spaces of shade. Others found a more fashionable way of staying cool; by simply wearing a straw trilby hat. Particularly remarkable was how the ladies would accessorise their hats by putting a big flower or a ribbon on them. A tip for the male festival goers out there: ruffle the edges of your trilby hat for an extra edgy look. Picture on the right: available at ASOS.com
3) Lace
Another thing which was seen throughout the week was one of this season’s hottest trends; the lovely fabric known as lace. It didn’t matter what it was made into; shirts, jackets, shorts and headbands- anything was acceptable. One of the newest trends on the Glastonbury site were the lace cycling shorts (in case you have no idea what I’m going on about- scroll down to see T4 host Jameela Jamil wearing them). They’re definitely bold and also quite daring, but worth getting used to. If you don’t want to take the risk, why not try these lace shorts instead as a safer option?

4) Denim
Denim is fast becoming a celebrity favourite; seen wearing anything from denim waistcoats and shorts to shirts. Comfortable to wear, and it works amazingly well as an extra layer in the evening when it gets a bit chillier (and trust me; it will get freezing cold at night!). If you want to go for a more alternative look, Alexa Chung's denim dungaree dress may be more innovative and refreshing where denim is concerned.

5) Shorts
Preferably ruffled and extra short (unfortunately there were girls who took this a little too far, and had their behinds hanging out- not a good look whatsoever)! They’re easy to combine, and it’s a nice way to get a summery tan on your legs. Shorts are preferably worn with cropped tops, but if you want to add a little edge to your outfit, be inspired by Kate Moss’s look and combine them with fishnet tights!

6) Floaty Maxi dresses
Perfect for nice hot weather, not so much for rainy, muddy days. Thankfully, there were none of these at Glastonbury, which meant maxi dresses were worn out and about for the entire week. The only major downside about the garment is that you have to be a certain height to pull them off; too short and you’ll look like you’re drowning! On the plus side; a lot of girls still will be able to wear them; seeing that it suits multiple body shapes.

A few celebrity examples, to see how it’s really done…
T4 presenter Jameela Jamil worked the Ray-Bans and lace cycling shorts whilst walking around Worthy Farm.

Watch out Kate Moss! Emma Watson was called ‘the new festival queen’, and it is quite obvious why! Wearing a Louis Vuitton corset and cut-offs, she definitely stood out from the crowd.
Leonie Roderick
