We Were Promised Jetpacks- In The Pit of the Stomach
Almost a year after it was recorded Scottish post-punk band We Were Promised Jetpacks are set to release their second album ‘In the Pit of the Stomach’ and it’s a far cry from their 2009 debut ‘These Four Walls’. For any band a successful debut is important. If a band is lucky enough to hit it big with their first album then there are always questions straight away about the second album – no one wants to be known as a one-hit wonder, and for these Edinburgh’s boys, one-hit wonders they are not.
Starting as they mean to go on with the loud beats of Circles and Squares WWPJ pound through a series of anthemic tunes including personal favourites Hard to Remember and Picture of Health. This album seems to have a much lighter tone than their original record, probably because the boys were enjoying hearty success including a tour of America when they were writing it. Where the first album leaned on it’s ability to create dark and haunting moments through an eerie sound indie vocalist Adam Thompson now seems confident enough to allow his lyrics to build the scene. As can be seen through the use of imaginative lyrics such as “Led all my lambs to the slaughter” to make for a memorable and deep sound.
Expectations are high for an album so eagerly anticipated but the boys know how to please the fans. Must have had a feeling in The Pit of their Stomach – see what I did there!
