Rockness - The Way To Start Summer
Aside from the fact that this is a Scottish festival, (which obviously makes it instantly better) this is also one of the better value for money all-weekend-gigs you could be lucky enough to go to. Three days and nights camping plus travel for £140?
I’m guessing no complaints from any of you studenty-types, no matter how much of your hard earned cash you blew in the pub after exams. Situated just outside Inverness in the beautiful setting of Dores, Rockness just oozes contentment. It’s hard to imagine any sort of stress when you get there, good weather is pretty much a given, great atmosphere and plenty of quirky accents create the perfect place for kicking back and cracking open a couple of cans.
If picturesque scenery and value for money haven’t convinced you, how about timing? Kicking off on the 11th June Rockness really does give you that instant summer boost. Who can complain with starting off the ‘working –period’ of student life with a three day bender, tan guaranteed? And if that’s not enough for you, you should see the line up.
Fat Boy Slim, Pendulum, Ian Brown, Plan B, The Strokes, Vampire Weekend, Blondie, Chase & Status need I say more?! Rockness has always amazed me with its ability to bring chart topping current musicians and absolute legends like Blondie and The Strokes into the one weekend. I know what you’re thinking, so do all the other festivals. But believe me when I say, you’re wrong. The difference that Rockness has, is it’s size. Huge names, on Huge stages in a setting that feels non too different from being part of a community. Rockness is magic because of it’s ability to make you feel completely at home whilst having the time of your life. It’s perfect because while you’re losing your mind to Fat Boy Slim’s set on the first night you know that the campsite is still going to be buzzing later and that by Sunday you will genuinely know the people seven tents over, and quite possibly be sharing breakfast over a crate.
If you’re lucky enough to be heading out to Dores this summer (aside from looking out for me and saving me a drink!) try and check out Club75, regardless whether DJ sets are your thing or not you’ll be hard pushed not to enjoy yourself with these guys.
SP not to be missed: Blondie – As Glam as can be!
SP one to watch – Japanese Popstars
