The Student Guide To Aberdeen

Aberdeen is home to the most northern universities in Britain but is a city that is continually growing and that offers a great student lifestyle. This great student lifestyle is due to a high proportion of the population being students, some 40,000 of 220,000.

The Universities

AberdeenAberdeen University: Aberdeen University is the larger of the two universities in the city and has a wide range of courses. Not surprisingly for a city known as the “Europe’s energy capital” they specialize in courses on energy and engineering.

Robert Gordon University: Robert Gordon has lived in the shadow of Aberdeen Uni for many years but is now starting forge a strong reputation for it’s cutting edge courses and alternative study options.

Pubs

Aberdeen is rammed with good pubs and they range from your cheap and cheerful you more expensive cocktail lounges.

Belmont Street: The main street for cheap bars. Check out the Scream pub Triple Kirks, Vodka Bar and Slains Castle.

The Illict Still: The Illicit Still is hidden away at the corner of Union Street. Ask for the “Gold Card” to receive great discounts.

Jam: Drinks start at 69p. What more do we really need to say?

Bar Mix: The nicest cocktail lounge with over 50 cocktails on the menu.

Clubs

Snafu: Snafu is hidden under Union Street at the Castlegate end. It plays host to the cooler DJs when they are in town and can be described as an dance/electro club.

Espionage: One of the bigger clubs. Espionage is split over 3 levels. There is no entry fee but the drinks are sometimes on the pricey side because of this.

Liquid: One of the largest chains of nightclubs in Scotland. Liquid Aberdeen is a favourite of students just like in all cities. Cheapish, cheesy and general good fun.

Tiger Tiger: The classier of the nightclubs in Aberdeen. Tiger Tiger is where you go wearing your best get up.

Also check out Pearl Lounge, Exodus and Priory.

Shopping
