Dermot O'Leary Presents The Saturday Sessions - Mature and Not Bad to Look At!
The compilation album takes many different forms in our modern day musical society, everything from albums of the latest pop smashes to bands laying bear there guilty pleasures and in more modern times the cover album. Jo Whiley opened the door with her first Live Lounge album back in 2008. The Live Lounge series is now on it’s third album and its success has obviously caught the attention of everyone else in BBC towers. This has resulted in the first “Dermot O’Leary presents The Saturday Sessions”
The Saturday Sessions is made up of a variety of artists ranging from Paolo Nutini to Biffy Clyro, Massive Attack to Katy Perry and several up and coming acts. Even the effervescent Will Young makes an appearance covering The Beatles, Golden Slumbers.
This cover is a prime example of some of the material on offer from Mr O’Leary. Not surprisingly in the aftermath of the passing of Michael Jackson several of the artists chose to cover some of his legendary tunes, a great example of this and a song not to be missed is the quirky Imogen Heaps cover of Thriller.
Whilst tracks like this provide a wonderful reincarnation of classics there are some bands that sadly don’t do the songs they have chosen any justice.
The Saturday Sessions is a mature man’s compilation album and the mix of massive names and smaller, up and coming bands, covering classics provides an easy listening album that won’t grow old quickly.
Oh and Dermot doesn’t look to bad on the cover.
