The Plastiscines

plastiscines_Women and rock are two concepts, which combine with varying results. Female fronted bands? Certainly, see Paramore for details. All female groups? Very few spring to mind and those that do, such as The Donnas, lack a certain 'take me seriously' vibe that the majority of male bands possess.

This is a situation, which The Plasticines will hopefully reverse. The French quartet have already made a name for themselves after being featured on American TV show Gossip Girl, and they subsequently released their sophomore album About Love last year. The album veers from indie-punk with spiky guitars – like 'Barcelona', the track featured on the aforementioned TV show – to laid back but emotionally fraught acoustic numbers such as 'I Am Down Tonight'.

The award for Best Track on the album has to go to the brilliant 'Bitch'. Screaming attitude in everything from the title to the thoroughly infectious bass line, it doesn't break any new barriers lyrically ('I'm a bitch when I walk my dog...'), but who cares when it sounds that darn cool?

If there's any justice, the Plasticines are going to be huge. Join the revolution now.

For fans of: The Strokes, The Donnas.
