The Other Guys

The Other Guys sees Will Ferrell back on top form as he plays Allen Gamble a New York City detective who couldn’t be more different from his partner Terry Hoitz played by Mark Wahlberg. Gamble cautious of taking risks is happier to fill out paper work for hotshot cops Danson (Dwayne Johnson) and Highsmith (Samuel L. Jackson) whilst Hoitz demoted due to previous mistakes on duty, is anxious to get out on the streets and solve a case. When Danson and Highsmith come to a tragic end and opportunity arises for Gamble and Hoitz to step up and prove their metal as detectives. The unlikely duo stumble across what seems be a high profile investigation and have to put their differences aside if they are to come out on top.

This is the fourth movie collaboration between director Adam McKay and Will Ferrell who previously worked together on Anchorman, (2004) Talladega Nights (2006) and Step Brothers (2008). The Other Guys doesn’t faulter from their style of quick wit, slapstick and the sometimes surreal humour that makes their movies popular, which is obviously working for them considering their track record and the laughs that The Other Guys gets in the cinema. If you’ve seen the adverts then you will have seen the hilarious ‘Good cop Bad cop’ scene or ‘Bad cop Bad cop’ if you’re Gamble, but not all the best scenes are used in the advert and there are plenty more hilarious gags in the movie. Eva Mendes also stars as Gamble’s wife leading us to discover that Gamble is strangely irresistible to hot women something that Hoitz can’t quite come to terms with.

So if you liked Anchorman (who doesn’t?), and if you have a not so secret crush on Will Ferrell (like me) then The Other Guys is the must-see movie for you this month.
