Superbowl Sunday The Venues

StudentPunch - A Mix of Everything Student! - Superbowl Sunday The Venues

superbowlTaking place this Sunday (Feb 6) is the biggest and most watched sporting event of the year: the Super Bowl. Kicking off at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas at 6:30pm ET, that’s 11:30pm GMT, it is expected to pull in over 100 million viewers. But whether you’re betting on the Green Bay Packers or the Pittsburgh Steelers, or whether you even understand the game at all, it’s guaranteed to be a great night. To help you make the most out of this annual occasion we’ve found the best (and cheapest) venues around Scotland to watch the 45th edition of one of the world’s most popular games.

The Golf Tavern, Edinburgh – Situated in the heart of Bruntsfield Links this cosy little pub has been the central hub for all NFL games since the start of the season. It’s an easy walking distance from Bruntsfield, Tollcross and Marchmont and has fantastic drinks deals every Sunday (handy that!) There are £2 Fosters, £2.20 Strongbows and £1.50 vodka and mixer. What more do you need?

Teviot, Edinburgh – The biggest and best Super Bowl party in the Capital can be found every year at Edinburgh University’s Teviot bar. It’s the usual free entry and it is open until late. Drinks prices are as cheap as chips with £1.50 pints and, of course, there’s a free buffet at half time. If you’re a skint student but desperately want to get out and watch the game this is where you need to be.

Campus, Glasgow - Sauchiehall Street’s Campus bar is you’re first stop for the best Super Bowl party in town. Deals include 4pt pitchers deals (Tennants and Strongbow both £9) and free pizza and hot dogs which will be making their way around. The party kicks off at 8pm until 4am and if need be you can phone and book a booth for you and your mates to relax in.

PJ Champs, Glasgow – PJ Champs on Glasgow’s Byres Road has a brilliant selection of food and drinks deals. Beer and burger is only £5.50, nachos and a 4pt pitcher is £11 and there are BOGOF pizza deals as well. On top of that the game will be shown on 13 screens around the venue and there’s a pool table to enjoy. The bar is open until 3am with the action kicking off early but it looks set to be busy so if you want to get in and get a good seat you should aim to be there before 10pm.

Dundee University Student Association, Dundee – Dundee’s own American Football team, Dundee Hurricanes, have arranged a night in conjunction with DUSA to bring you the game in top student fashion. There will be a fantastic selection of drinks deals and a pre-game pub quiz to get your competitive side going. Entry is £2 and doors open at 7pm.

Abertay Union, Dundee – The action kicks off at 7pm running right through until 4am. There’s tonnes of bar promos (subject to availability) including bottles of Carlsburg Export for £1, bottles of San Miguel for £1.80 and 25ml Eristoff Black for 70p. There will be a quiz starting at 8:45pm and the coverage starts at 10:45pm. Proper student style!

The Monkey House, Aberdeen – ‘The Social Evolution’ is here and The Monkey House is a top stop in Aberdeen to watch the game. The action kicks off at 10 but, like Riley’s (who have had to cancel their Super Bowl party), it has been hard to get granted a later licence. They will only be showing the first and second quarters and the half-time performance from The Black Eyed Peas. Despite this there are fantastic drinks deals with pints from £1.95 and if you fancy a bit of grub to chow down on there’s 20% off food as well. Sweet!
