If you’ve only going to buy one Norwegian avant-garde-synth-pop album which was recorded in a former abattoir this year………………. |

It wasn’t until my third listen of ‘The Lion’s Roar’ that I bothered to do any research into First Aid Kit’s background. What I found out was surprising to say the least. With a record that oozes with 1950s inspired American folk which verges on country and western at times, you’d be more than a little surprised to find out the two sisters that make up First Aid Kit are in fact Swedish. Nonetheless, listening to ‘The Lion’s Roar’ it’s clear Johanna and Klara Söderberg have raided their parents’ vinyl collection and done their homework. Maybe there’s not much else to do in the fjords…....
The great thing about seeing a band live that only has one album to their name, is that you’re pretty much guaranteed that they’ll play the hits. And that’s exactly what Wild Flag did, and more, when they visited Glasgow’s Oran Mor this week.
After selling 2 million copies of debut album We Started Nothing and 4 million singles, things were looking pretty good for the Ting Tings. But after four years away recording across most of Europe and scraping a whole album in the process, the release of the band’s follow up, Sounds from Nowheresville, finds the band in a much different place and with a revamped sound. So, has the wait been worth it?
It is not so much a reminder as it is a warning, when we say that you should never confuse All the Saints with nineties girl group All Saints as it is likely fans of one will find little to like with the other. Dance-pop people turn away, there is little for you here.
