Katy Perry - Teenage Dream
Katy Perry is my dirty secret. I find it impossible not to love her, even with the ridiculously overplayed, over covered, overrated “I kissed a girl” I cannot help but think “Aw, Katy… yes yes I’ll buy your new album even though you’re wearing whipped cream cans attached to your bra…”
Anyway, back to the music. The album IS catchy (don’t raise your eyebrows at me please) and it definitely constitutes a collection of songs you WILL here in clubs, in cafes and generally plastered all over the radio. Besides the obvious sex appeal Katy exudes you have to appreciate that this album shows she’s grown as an ‘artist’.
Compared to her first album (her first album under her current name and persona rather) ‘One of the boys’ there are deeper issues and a more sensitive character coming through. “Circle the drain” is one of my favourites, dealing with drug abuse in an insanely addictive (pardon the irony) bass heavy tune. Never fear though “Peacock” sticks true to the sexy Katy we all know and love.
This is definitely a CD to have on a playlist at a party and well worth a listen.
