Frightened Rabbit Live!

frightened-rabbitDespite weather disruptions fans made it to Glasgow Barrowlands to see Scottish indie band Frightened Rabbit put on one hell of a show.

The lyric ‘Keep Yourself Warm’ has never been more relevant than on a frosty December evening at Glasgow Barrowlands. Indie fans trudged through the fog, the ice and the snow to see Scottish band Frightened Rabbit at their second sold-out show and their efforts were certainly not in vain.

The band, formed by Selkirk brothers Scott and Grant Hutchison, has gone from strength to strength since the release of their second album, The Midnight Organ Fight, in 2008. Now with a third album, a tour of America and a new record label under their belt, bringing it home to one of Glasgow’s highest rated venues was a fantastic way to top it all off.

The five-piece modestly worked their way through all the favourites including Things and Swim Until You Can’t See Land. The night’s top moments were Hutchison serenading fans with a moving acoustic version of Good Arms vs. Bad Arms and their most well-known tune Keep Yourself Warm, which enticed a remarkable unison from the crowd. There’s nothing quite as special as listening to 1500 people singing “My hole, I’ll get my hole.”

The encore prompted a massive surge of emotion, kicking off with Poke, The Twist then ending on the epic The Loneliness and the Scream which prompted a sing-along that continued long-after the band left the stage.

Not many Scottish artists can say that they’ve really made it but Frightened Rabbit have the abilities to follow in the footsteps of prodigies like Biffy Clyro and Travis. Their humble expressions and eternal thanks to fans show they’re still down-to-earth but their music certainly puts them up there with the heroes. There’s a new age for Scottish music and these guys are definitely at the forefront.
