Foals - Antidote

foalsThis album is simply not enough! The oxford-raised boys are bringing out their follow up album on May 10th  and are currently touring the UK to promote it but if it’s anything like their first album they’ll have no trouble selling it.

Everyone’s heard ‘Cassisus’, it was one of the big summer tunes of 2008 and unless you were living in a cave and becoming a hermit you heard the tune blaring out “you’re second best” at least once a day. The thing I love about these guys is that no one’s been able to pigeon hole them into just one genre, they’re indie, they’re dance-punk, they’re math-rock (I think people are just making these up now!) and even ‘post punk revival’. In my mind though, they are just a group of guys having a really good time. As cliché as it seems, when they disbanded their first group because they “weren’t having fun anymore” I think they really managed to achieve it this time round. It’s not just fun to listen to, it looks like fun to make.

The lyrics are somewhat reminiscent of bands such as Futureheads, not really saying much of anything and yet managing to draw links across a broad range of genres. Here’s hoping that “Total Life Forever” the 2010 follow up lives up to the party feel of Antidote and brings out yet another summer anthem like Cassius. Songs from this album to look out for are; Balloons, Cassius, and Big Big Love.
