Blink 182 - Enema Of The State
Unless you've been living in a parallel fun-free dimension for the past decade, Blink-182 should be a household name. For the unlucky few who find themselves uninitiated, the premise is simple: three talented gentlemen, a handful of chords and songs about doing unmentionable things to dogs and your girlfriend's mother.
Even if the album Enema Of The State doesn't ring any bells, the singles which sprung forth from it – the most famous Blink songs – should do. 'All The Small Things' the band's first number one single, can be credited as one of the most famous rock songs of the 21st century as well as probably the most perfect example of pop-punk in existence. Not far behind is 'What's My Age Again?' which stands as exhibit A of the way Blink can turn teenage humour into a credible song. The only time the album slows down is for the relatively grown-up 'Adam's Song', with lyrics about suicide and depression showing that the band can actually take themselves, and life in general, seriously.
If you don't have a sense of humour and find anything less than Radiohead puerile, there's a slim chance you won't enjoy Enema Of The State. Ditto anyone who likes their music intellectual and with impossibly complex guitar solos. For anyone else, this album will at best change your life, and at worst make it a little more fun.
Blink 182 will be playing festivals all over the UK this summer. Don’t miss them!
