Chicane - Giants
What to say about Chicane?
Huge stars in their own right. Heralded across the student population. Just not my cup of tea.
I’ll admit, this album may just be a little over my head. Perhaps too far out of my interest for me to give it a fair judgement. I can appreciate that the songs do build to crescendos that you’re rocking on the balls of your feet for, waiting for the fall. I can also admit that some of the songs do pique my interest to the point of distracting me from something else I’m doing. The only thing I cannot say is, that it holds my attention the entire way through.I think it’d be a great background CD, possibly even a driving CD, I just can’t imagine picking it out of a collection as the best one, or struggling between this CD and another. But, going by the reaction my friends had to it, it’s worth a listen.
Apparently there is an almost Kevin-and-Perry-Go-Large anthem feel, even in the first song Barefoot. Chicane for me are always going to split opinions, which makes me a little interested. While I’m pretty much indifferent to this album, I have friends that will not stop playing middlestancerunner on repeat, or Hiding All The Stars at top volume in their cars.
Clearly then, whatever I’m missing is something that you should at least try to find. For fans of a chilled out version of rave, or a super-calm drum and bass. I don’t know, for fans of music they can have an opinion on? Yeah, we’ll go for that…
