Amy MacDonald - A Curious Thing

amy-macdonald-a-curious-thing-7055069300Unless you've been living in the Far East for the past three years or so, Amy MacDonald and her phenomenally successful debut album This Is The Life should be familiar names. The Scottish singer-songwriter (everyone loves a bit of home-grown talent!) possesses arguably one of the most recognisable and powerful voices in the industry today, and her second release A Curious Thing was an eagerly anticipated follow-up when it was released in March this year.

As the saying goes, 'If it ain't broke don't fix it' and Miss MacDonald keeps this in mind. “I Got No Roots” is one of the many songs that wouldn't sound out of place on her acclaimed debut, but the entire album has an altogether slightly more grown up vibe – not too much so it alienate, but enough to make it an obviously different album. 'Spark' is the gem amongst the twelve tracks – a compelling track with a chorus that allows MacDonald to show just how emotional she can sound.

If you truly hated This Is The Life, or you're not a fan of acoustic-led tunes in the first place, it's unlikely that A Curious Thing will change your mind. If you had even a passing interest in the former, however, the latter is well worth picking up.
